Taita Taveta, KENYA: Cords Co-principle Kalonzo Musyoka has urged his Cord counterparts Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula to endorse and support him as the Cord’s flag bearer in the bid to contest for presidential seat in the coming general election.
Speaking while campaigning for his wiper party in Voi Taita Taveta County on Saturday, the party leader said that he has potential of being the flag bearer for the Cord coalition, with confidence to defeat Jubilee party.
Kalonzo accused Jubilee government of failing to deliver fully to the people of Kenya, thus promising to give solutions to challenges being experienced in different parts of the country, including land issues at the coast.
He stated that coastal region especially Taita Taveta have got land rich of natural resources such as minerals, that is yet to benefit residents.
“Jubilee government has failed to eliminate challenges facing Kenyans. Has failed to curb the issue of corruption whereby tax payers money is been stolen every day in different ministries. The coastal region including this county of Taita Taveta has land rich of Iron ore minerals, and even national park that consumes about 60% of total land but yet residents don’t benefit due to poor leadership strategies,” Kalonzo stated.
During his campaign, the wiper leader also assured Kenyans that Cord coalition and leadership at large, is still strong, united and focused.
He however dismissed the idea to merge the parties within the coalition, stating that every party will stand on its own.
His bid for presidential ticket was also supported by some of the leaders in the Cord coalition who accompanied him including wiper secretary general Omar Hassan, Taita Taveta governor John Mruttu, Taita Taveta Senator Dan Mwazo, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior among other leaders.
Senator Mwazo stated that Cord leadership had a discussion on 2012 and agreed that the wiper leader will be the flag bearer in 2017.
He hence insisted that the coalition should stick to the agreement made in choosing its flag bearer.
In his campaign bid in the county, Kalonzo also visited Mwatate, Taveta and Loitoktok residents respectively.
