Mombasa, KENYA: The body of a man was Sunday retrieved from a pit latrine in Mtaa wa mbuzi Likoni -Mombasa county.
The man who is yet to be identified,was retrieved from the pit latrine that was estimated to be 25m deep, by fire fighters and police officers.
Eyewitness told Baraka FM on Sunday it took the officers three hours to retrieve the decomposed body from the latrine no longer in use. The body is suspected to have stayed there for the last five days.
Hundreds of residents had camped at the scene, waiting patiently as rescuers were battling to remove the body.
Mr Njagi area village elder said the man had a knife in his pocket of trouser and a basket concluding that he might be a fisher man.
By the time of going to press, no one at the scene among hundreds of residence had identified the body.
Police later moved the the body to Coast General Morgue.
Likoni area police chief Willy Simba could not be reached for comment as his phone went unanswered.
