Mombasa, Kenya: Three aspiring footballers from Mombasa County are among the final 16 chosen to attend an elite training camp organized by sport betting firm Betway in a program titled the Betway Talent Search.
The trio are; 21-year-old mid-fielder Moses Kinyanjui, 21-year-old defender Harun Junior and Godfrey Okongo Lowo, a 23-year-old goalkeeper.
The rest are drawn from various regions across the country including Nyanza, Nairobi and Central.
The 16 top players were selected from a group of 1600 shortlisted footballers who took part in the Betway Talent Search trials in October at the Goan Institute in Nairobi.
Mathare United head coach Francis Kimanzi lead ten local and international scouts and former Kenyan skipper and Betway brand ambassador Dennis Oliech to oversee the process.
The selected players will report to camp on 10th November at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, Nairobi for a four-day venture.
While in camp the players will undergo different training including skills development, physical assessment, life skills workshops, game analysis and mentorship programs.
They will also undergo match play, 7v7 and 11v11 under the watch of representatives from English Premier League club West Ham United and Mathare United.
Betway Kenyan branch Manager Wanja Gikonyo noted that the exercise will allow judges to pick players who demonstrated strong passion and the will to learn, in addition to their football skill.
The chosen top players will win the grand prize courtesy of Betway and a trip to visit West Ham United training ground.
