Nairobi has been leading in Kenya when it comes to High end Fashion Shows, dominating the industry that has seen young boys and girls prosper in the business.
The youths have now decided to invest heavily in it, and this weekend the Ultimate Fashion Show that is scheduled to be held on Saturday 12th; will see different youth showcase their talents.
The show is expected be held at Swahili Pot Hub which is an innovation center set to enhance use of technology among the youths in the region.
Speaking to Baraka FM on Wednesday, Talal Van Rocco, former Mr.World Kenya Kwale County 2016, who is also a trainer, said that their aim is to prove to the society that modeling is a serious business.
“Mombasa youths have got talents, we have passionate people here. Modeling is a business that one can rely on provided that they brand themselves well.” He said.
The founding committee expressed their concern on the growing cases of drug abuse, rape, early marriage etc, and thus they opt to use the fashion show to try and curb the vices.
Angela Mumbi, model based at the Swahili Pot Hub, says that their fashion shows combine all the trends and creativity from different artists-designers, models, make up artists, hairstylists among others.
However, model manager Musa Oyoo told Baraka FM that High end Fashion Shows have not been taken seriously in Mombasa, where funding has been a problem in whenever they organize an event.
“So far Mombasa has less than 5 fashion agents compared to Nairobi where competition is too high. We have approached some companies in Mombasa but it takes time for them to believe in what you do.” He said.
Others organizers involved in the project are Fashion Trends Mombasa, Pwani Youth Networking, Lucia K Fashion, Pamba Photography among others.
