Lamu, KENYA: Fishermen in Lamu East want the county government of Lamu to speed up construction of a cooling plant in Kizingitini.

A total of Sh.15 Million has been set aside for the cooling plant that was expected to be completed before the end of the year.

The fishermen said most of their catch goes bad at sea, due to the lack proper infrastructure to enable them store the fish before availing them to the markets.

The fishermen said they believed the cooling facility would help reduce the losses experienced daily.

They also want the county government to help them source for a reliable market for their fish.

“We have waited for the cooling facility to be completed here in Kizingitini but it seems that won’t happen soon. We are tired of the daily loss and hope that the county government will complete it soon,”said Mohamed Shosi.

Meanwhile the county government of Lamu has completed the renovation of a Sh.6.5 Million fish market in Kiunga.
