US Embassy in Kenya closes temporarily due to security reasons

Nairobi, KENYA: The US embassy in the country on Friday closed business temporarily, this is after a shooting happened outside the embassy in Gigiri, Nairobi on Thursday.

Witnesses say a man was shot dead after he tried to make a forceful entry into the embassy.

The suspect stabbed a GSU officer at the gate and the latter pulled the trigger on the attacker.

Intentions of the attacker are yet to be established.

In a statement issued by the embassy confirmed the incident saying:

“The U.S. Embassy wishes to inform U.S. citizens of a shooting incident outside the Embassy today. No Embassy personnel were involved and no U.S. citizens are known to have been affected by this incident. The Embassy will be closed to the public on October 28.”

“While routine consular services have been cancelled, emergency consular services for U.S. citizens continue to be available,” said a statement from United States of America Embassy in Kenya.

Their website reveals that services would resume on Monday.
