EACC begins probe into sh. 5 billion scandal at Ministry of Health

Nairobi, KENYA: Investigations on  sh. 5 billion scam revealed in a leaked audit of the Health Ministry by media reports have already began, authorities said.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday visited Afya house where the Health ministry is located; to carry out the investigations.

Speaking at Afya House in Nairobi after meeting the Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Cleophas Mailu, EACC’s Deputy CEO Michael Mubeya said that the commission will be forced to start probing the scam all over again following the depth of the matter.

Mubeya said that they have to be given all documents required in enhancing the companies involved in the 5 billion scam by  the end of the day (Friday 28th) adding that the commission has instituted a special team which will investigate the matter thoroughly.

“We have commenced fresh investigations in response to media reports that contained many allegations of irregular payments ,as a commission at EACC we instituted a special team to come and start the investigations.” Mubeya said.

He added that after the meeting, Dr Mailu said that his ministry will co-operate fully with the commission in investigating the matter; pointing out that the ministry has already formed an internal team to gather information regarding documents required.

He insisted that as a commission they are not aware of any missing files.

He indicated the his commission will fast track the process and complete it in a month’s time; insisting that the investigations will be intensive.
