Drama as woman threatens to commit suicide at Marikiti market in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa residents walk up to drama on Friday Morning, as they witnessed a woman try to jump from the roof top of Mackinnon market (Marikiti) in a bit to commit suicide.

The woman known by the name “Kalekye” (according to eye witnesses) had climbed on top of the building shouting that she wanted to take her life since no one wanted to help her.

Witnesses told Baraka FM that she has been seen loitering around the market begging for food and money for quite a long time, before the incident took place this morning.

“She had earlier asked help from the Governor of Mombasa Ali Hassan Joho but she was not helped she always ask people to help her with food because she has children now she decided to climb up there and seek attention,”  Said Fatma Ali; one of the witnesses.

She is alleged to have climbed on top of the roof and threatened to throw herself from the building if she doesn’t get help.

“ She was shouting ‘Today u will help me, I will kill myself today I will climb up there and throw myself and die.”Said Saidi, one of the witnesses.

It was not until the intervention of the County Fire Department; that helped convince her come down from the building.

Police arrived at the scene and took her to the station for more investigations.

According to witnesses this is not the first time Kalekye has tried to commit suicide she has also been seen trying to so in Nairobi and also other areas in Mombasa.
