Woman nabbed with bhang worth half a million in Voi

Taita Taveta, KENYA: A woman in Voi Taita Taveta county is being held in police custody after having been caught with bhang worth  half a million shillings.

Linet Weikota was on Wednesday morning arrested by police in Kaloleni area in Voi, during an ongoing operation to establish drug peddlers in the town.

Speaking to journalists in a press briefing, Voi OCPD David Kirui stated that the woman is being suspected to have been selling the drug to students.

Kirui claimed that the police had information earlier about the illegal business by the suspect, in that they have for a while now being following her footsteps.

According to the OCPD, the woman is one of the main drug dealers in Voi town.

“This woman is one of the major drug dealers here in Voi and she was among the culprits we have been looking for. We had earlier caught seven men, who are suspected to be in the same cartel”, Said Kirui.

He added that the police are going on with the investigations to establish and deal with drug dealers in the region.

The woman of an average age bracket, is expected to be in Voi law courts tomorrow, where she will face her fate.

This comes merely two weeks after government’s coast region security coordinator Nelson Marwa, directed the police officers in Voi and Taita Taveta county at large to investigate and curb the drug peddling cartels in the region.

There has been an alarming rate of drug abuse among residents in Voi in recent days, youths being named as the most affected.
