Nairobi, KENYA: Malkia Strikers junior returned to its winning ways by thumping Senegal by straight sets of 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-8) in the Africa Under-23 Nations Championship clash at the Kasarani Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Senegal took an early lead of 8-7, but the Catherine Mabwi coached side quickly changed table to grab the first set before cruising with ease in the subsequent sets.
Kenyan trio of Yvonne Wavinya with four spikes, Ann Lowem’s two blocks and Veronica Kikabat starred as they were voted the best spiker, blocker and server respectively.
The success saw Kenya bounced back from Monday’s 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 18-25) defeat they suffered against Egypt who grabbed their second victory yesterday by overcoming Rwanda 3-0(25-14,25-17,25-21).
Kenya will return to court on Thursday in their last match, where they must beat Rwanda managed by Kenyan Paul Bitok, to earn a slot in next year’s world championship to be held in Slovenia.
The round robin U-23 African Volleyball championship enters its fourth day on Wednesday where Senegal will battle Egypt while winless Botswana will be up against Rwanda.
