Mandera, KENYA: At least 12 people have been reportedly killed in Mandera after suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen attacked a lodge with explosives.
Mandera East police boss (OCPD) Ezekiel Singoe told the Daily Nation that the 12 included ten who were visiting for set book performances at schools in the county.
The militants are reported to have attacked a lodging hosting non-locals using grenades and IEDs on the early morning Tuesday attack.
A total of ten people including four who were wounded in the attack have been rescued from the lodging that had 33 occupants.
The attackers reportedly used improvised explosive devices to break the metallic doors at the lodge before shooting the 12 dead in their rooms.
Police fear there could be casualties and rescue efforts had been hampered by fears of booby traps inside the Bisharo Guest House.
