Mombasa, KENYA:Police in Kisauni,Mombasa are on a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers believed to have escaped narrowly following a botched robbery.
The police on Monday said the suspects engaged a business woman who was carrying her money with the intention of banking it around Naivas Nyali area;fortunately the woman shouted for help attracting a crowd who came to her rescue.
Narrating the incident to Baraka FM, Kisauni police boss Richard Ngatia, said that police were in hot pursuit of the duo and that they will make efforts to arrest the suspects.
He added that the robbers upon realizing that their cover had been blown, they reportedly escaped using a motorcycle which had no registration number.
He said the business woman was carrying sh.300,000 in her bag and she was walking on foot before she was approached by the suspects.
The police boss noted that the suspects were armed with a pistol.
He called upon people with huge amount of money to seek police escort; which is given free of charge so as to avoid robbery incidences.
“We are calling on anyone to alert the police whenever they are carrying such amount of money. We will give free escort to anyone,but on early arrangements,” said the police boss.
He urged the public to volunteer information on the two suspects at large to the nearest police station.
Mr Ngatia reiterated that the police will continue to effectively deploy all available resources to ensure a crime-free society, especially in Kisauni.
