Nairobi, KENYA: Two-time Olympic champion David Rudisha is among the 20 nominees for the 2016 IAAF World Athlete of the Year Award.
Other Kenyans in the list, are Vivian Cheruiyot, Eliud Kipchoge and Conselsus Kipruto both who starred in the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
Rudisha who successfully defended his men 800 gold medal in Rio, will be looking to grab the accolade for the second time having won it 2010.
Meanwhile Kipchoge and Kipruto made the cut for the first time having won the men’s marathon and 3000m steeplechase gold medals in Rio respectively.
The trio will however face stiff competition from triple Olympic champion Jamaican’s Hussein Bolt and double 10,000m Olympic champion Mo Farah of Great Britain among other top names.
Vivian Cheruiyot who won Kenya her first ever women 5000m Olympic title during the Rio Games, is the only Kenyan female in the 10-women list.
The women’s list comprise of Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana, Ruth Beitia (Spain), Kendra Harrison (USA), Caterine Ibarguen (Colombia), Ruth Jebet (Bahrain), Sandra Perkovic (Croatia), Caster Semenya (South Africa), Elaine Thompson (Jamaica) and Anita Wlodarczyk (Poland).
