Lamu, KENYA: The national government will this week recruit 600 youth from various parts of Lamu County to undertake entrepreneurial training in various skills.
This comes ahead of the loans the youth are to attain from the Youth Fund to enable them better their lives.
The training programme is set to equip them with basic knowledge on how to manage money whenever they acquire the funds from governmen, in the various funds provided for by the national government.
The programme will see 200 youth from Lamu Island,Mpeketoni and Lamu East respectively fully sponsored for the various skills through the Youth Fund.
Speaking in Lamu on Sunday,CS for Public Affairs,Gender and Youth Sicily Kariuki confirmed the recruitment of the 600 will begin any day next week.
Lamu East MP Athman Shariff and Women rep Shakilla Abdalla said the programme was necessary and would greatly help equip the youth with some sense on financial prowess to enable for better management of funds and emerging projects.
Shakilla called on the government to however consider increasing the number of youth being sponsored in the programme; saying for a county like Lamu,600 was too small a number for such a life changing venture.
“We have been witnessing a lot of misappropriation of funds because many of those who were taking loans didn’t have a clue on how to plan for and manage the monies.but we know this programme will change that,” said Shakilla.
