Mombasa, KENYA: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned Mombasa County Assembly Health committee on allegations that they had been bribed about sh 1 million by the Coastal Bottlers limited company.
This comes after the Committee had paid a site visit to the Coca-cola company, to write a report after several 500ml Dasani water bottles were found to be contaminated with cotton wool.
Addressing the press at their offices on Monday, EACC Head of Coast Region Simon Chepka said they received information about the bribe from their officers, forcing them to take immediate action.
“We received information from our officers and we rushed to find out but I can’t disclose any information because that matter is under investigations.”Said Simon.
Mombasa County Assembly Health committee Chairman Swaleh Kibwana who confirmed that they had been summoned; said the bottles found with cotton wool had been taken to South Africa for more investigations.
“The water bottles have been taken to South Africa for further experiments and we will not rest until we get to the bottom of the matter.” said Kibwana.
Ibrahim Kondo who is a member of the committee linked the matter to politics saying someone wanted to bar the investigations conducted by the committee.
“This matter is political but we won’t stop our investigations,” Kondo said.
