Mombasa, KENYA: Kenya Revenue Authority on Thursday intercepted a container at the Port of Mombasa containing goods which were not declared by the importer.
KRA regional manager Nicholas Kinoti told the press that scanned images of the container showed it was loaded with two Range Rovers that had not been declared in attempt to evade taxes.
The container which was headed to Uganda from United Kingdom UK, was also loaded with two other units of vehicles, a Peugeot and a Toyota Corrola.
The two salon vehicles were allegedly loaded at the front of the container in attempt to conceal the Range Rovers.
According Mr. Kinoti, the importer had declared the container was carrying 600 bicycle nut upon scanning, it showed that they were less than 200 bicycles.
Further reports disclosed the importer had declared another consignment of 200 bales of used clothing’s, 10 tables of six engines.
However, the same did not reflect at the interception, what was recovered was instead the vehicles that were covered with mattresses.
KRA officials and government agencies have since launched investigations to unearth those behind the scam.
The official said the container was imported at the Port of Mombasa on 5th September.
