Nairobi, KENYA: Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Monday nominated Court of Appeal Judge Philomena Mbete Mwilu for the Deputy Chief Justice position.
In a press statement, the JSC panel, through its chair, Prof Margaret Kobia, recommended Lady Justice Philomena for the position after a lengthy discussion.
“Today, 10th October 2016, the Judicial Service Commission has finalized the process of evaluation of various candidates interviewed for the position of the Deputy Chief Justice. The JSC has, after lengthy deliberations, recommended Hon. Lady Justice Philomena Mbete Mwilu for appointment as the Deputy Chief Justice and the name has been submitted to His Excellency the President.” Read the statement.
Justice Mwilu has served in the Judiciary for 32 years and during an interview by the JSC, she said she supported polygamy “as long as there is peace in the family”.
Her name has since been submitted to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Deputy Chief Justice position attracted a total of 15 applicants with only one man.
