Mombasa, KENYA: The Ceska pistol recovered from suspected M-pesa robbers in Changamwe on Tuesday was stolen from Nyandarua police station,police said.
The firearm with 7 rounds of ammunition got lost in May this year and was recovered following botched robbery in an M-pesa shop in Potreize Changamwe.
Changamwe police boss Stephen Cheteka told Baraka FM on Thursday that the details of the firearm were forwarded to ballistic experts in Nairobi; where it was confirmed that the firearm belongs to the officer attached to Nyandarua police station.
According to Cheteka, the officer’s house was broken into by suspected criminals and his firearm stolen.
The officer whose name is yet to be released by police, is said to be in rank of chief inspector.
The suspects who were alleged to be on a robbery mission, dropped the firearm accidentally while trying to shoot the Mpesa owner, who resisted resulting into them fleeing using a motorcycle; leaving the firearm behind.
Police later were called to collect the pistol.
