Mombasa, KENYA: A Man who allegedly defrauded residents  in Likoni,Mombasa by impersonating himself as a police officer; was on Tuesday charged in a Mombasa court.

Samwel Onyango pleaded not guilty before Mombasa resident magistrate Martin Rabera to the charge of impersonating a public officer.

Court heard that Onyango pretended to be a police officer and arrested Jackline Nabwire on 26th September.

“I was attacked by mob and lost my phone and money,” he told the court.

He also said that he identified one person among the mob that attacked him.

The accused person says he lost his mobile phone and a sum of sh.4,650 when he was attacked.

“I request to be taken to hospital since I am unwell since I was attacked and injured by mob,” he said.

Rabera ordered the  investigating officer to appear in court on 14th November and explain why accused persons was denied to record his statement.

Court ordered him to be released on a surety bond of sh.30,000.
