Mombasa,KENYA: Tension remains high at Likoni police station following a fire outbreak in one of the houses at the station.
Police uniforms,mattresses,beds and other items were burnt to ashes in the Thursday evening incident.
Police reports indicate that already investigations are underway to determine the cause of fire.
“Today at around 1830 hrs smoke was believed to be coming from the room of PC Nzioka,upon confirmation of the incident police officers who were within the station rushed to the scene with fireextinguishers,”read part of the drafted report.
It is alleged that one of the officer was burning some dry leaves around his house before fire spread to the window curtains; due to the strong winds in the area.
Officers at the station confirmed there was tension as many thought it was an attack.
“A female officer upon realizing a huge smoke, started yelling attracting attention at the station. At first we took cover and we positioned ourselves ready for the worst,” said one of the officer at the station.
We later realized it was fire razing our houses, we used water and the extinguishers to put off the fire,added another officer.
Likoni police boss Willy Simba confirmed the incident saying the officers managed to put off the fire on time before it caused havoc.
“Nobody was injured, my officers were at the station ready to go for night operation before the incident,”said police boss.
