Lamu, KENYA: Women from the 47 counties have been advised to form groups that will enable them borrow loans from the government to enable them carry out development projects and improve their lives and livelihoods.

Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization National Chair Rahab Mwikali said women at the grassroots have not been playing their part in the development of the nation.

Speaking to women in Lamu recently,Mwikali said for the nation to win the war on starvation and poverty, there was need for all citizens including women to play their part seriously in nation building.

“This is not a time for women to laze around waiting for men to bring home the bacon. Women must arise too and play their part so that this nation can move forward. The government provides money where women can borrow loans and better their lives and lets all make use of such funds,”said Mwikali.

Mwikali also urged women not to shy away from contesting for political seats and more so as the 2017 general elections draw closer.

“Let’s make our interests known early.lets also join our male counterparts in politics.we have a right too. There is nothing as powerful as women leadership if taken seriously,”she said.
