Mombasa,KENYA:Paul Maina and Nancy Chebet survived a hot humid to claim the 33rdedition of Mombasa International Marathon held on Sunday.
Maina who race from Nyeri County clocked 2:12:13 ahead of Samson Bor who finished in 2:12:50 while DeClerk Omari form Kisii came third on 2:12:79.
In women’s category, Chebet romped to victory in 2:40:01 with her closest competitor Sheila Chebet managing 2:44:09, 16 seconds ahead of Winnie Frida who settled for third spot.
Nancy Jepkosgei from Iten successfully retained her title in the 10K race after stopping time in 38:28, followed by Beatrice Rutta 38:52 with Njoki Ndungu (39:15) coming in third.
Joshua Kipkorir claimed men’s 10K race in 32:16 with Patrikc Mutunga coming second in Patrick 32:30 while Stephen Mwenda settled for third with 32:48.
First three winners in the 42km races received Kshs 400,000, Kshs 150,000 and Kshs 100,000 respectively while top ten runners from coast region were given cash rewards as a motivation.
This year’s edition attracted over 200 athletes across the country.
