Mombasa,KENYA:Ability beyond disability campaign is now in Mombasa, and this time round it was not just giving out gadgets to people living with disability, but also to empower them in doing business.
More than 60 beneficiaries from Mombasa region comprising of Mombasa Kwale and Kilifi counties received; 60 mobile vending units, 80 white canes, 80 stylus, 80 diapers, and brails.
This year’s campaign also included persons with visual hearing and those living with physiological disabilities.
Speaking during the event held at APDK Bombululu, Mombasa on Friday, Kenya Re Cooporate affairs manager Mrs Gladys Some Mwangi, said that this year’s campaign targets more than 1200 beneficiaries from across the country.
Mrs. Some, who was representing Kenya Re managing director Mr.Jadiah Mwarania, added that they are pleased that this year’s campaign was going to transform the lives of beneficiaries in Mombasa region.
“It’s with great honor that we are able to empower the lives of these beneficiaries through this campaign. As a Corporation we endeavor to promote literacy campaign that has educated Kenyans across the nation on the sensitization and awareness of issues touching on disabilities.” She said on behalf of Mr.Mwarania, managing director.
On the other hand, some of the beneficiary who spoke to Baraka fm appreciated the move urging more people living with disability in the region to come out and register in the APDK offices.
Denis Mungoma, a student at Likoni School of visually impaired in Mombasa county got a walking stick saying it was proving difficult for him to walk long distances.
“This will help me because it was hard for me before.Now I can walk with this stick and even cross the road without fear while going to school.” he said.
Niko Fiti campaign is expected to visit two other regions including Eldoret, Trans Nzoia, west Pokot and Kapenguria County.
Others are Siaya, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Vihiga and Bondo counties.
