Lamu,KENYA:The National Lands Commission-NLC has unveiled a list of individuals to be compensated for after their lands were acquired for the establishment of a coal fired power plant in Kwasasi area of Lamu County.
The NLC has now approved the list of 675 individuals who now stand to receive monetary compensation for their lands.
In a meeting with various stakeholders of the project in Lamu on Thursday,NLC boss Mohammed Swazuri said each land owner will receive Sh.800,000 per acre compensation for their lands.
He warned impostors to vacate the lands before they are apprehended.
“This project is long overdue and so we are here to unveil the list of land owners who shall be compensated for their lands where the coal plant is to be put up.Each acre at the site shall go for sh.800,000.We shall however raise the amount depending on how developed each piece of land is,”said Swazuri.
The coal project is expected to c under the ownership of the Amu Power Company.
A total of 975 acres of land has already been set aside for the Sh.200 Billion project.
