Mombasa, KENYA:A man claiming to be a Kenya Navy soldier has been arrested by police in Mombasa for allegedly swindling residents millions of shillings in the name of recruiting them to join the Military in the ongoing recruitment.
The suspect, a Major Benson Makana Boiyo, was arrested by a special team of officers on Thursday in his hideout in Bombolulu Estate following complaints from the victims.
Approximately eight people claiming to be his victims had thronged Makupa police station by today evening to lodge complaints against him, according to police.
Investigators say the suspect is believed to have conned people money and vehicles in major towns.
Mombasa police boss Lucas Ogara said the suspect conned people in Mombasa and Nairobi millions of shillings on the pretext of helping them to join the military.
“The suspect was arrested following complaints from the victims who have been. We are hoping more victims are coming,”said police boss.
Ogara said the soldier is currently being held at Makupa police station and will be arraigned in court Friday after investigations are completed.
