Mombasa, KENYA: Four people are nursing serious injuries including deep cuts in their heads and hands, this is after being attacked by a criminal gang in Majengo mapya area around Bilal mosque in Likoni.

Police said the four were attacked on Tuesday morning by a gang of 20 criminals who were armed with pangas, knives and other crude weapons.

The suspects are believed to be members of the “Young thugs” criminal gang; a youth gang which has been reported to terrorize Likoni residents.

Police recovered several school bags with books inside that are suspected to belong to the suspects.

School uniforms were also found inside the bags and according to the  police, the suspects are believed to have changed their school uniform and put on civilian clothes to avoid being noticed.

Likoni Deputy police chief Anthony Shimoli on Tuesday told Baraka FM the  gang was armed with crude weapons and that they are in pursue of them.

“We have taken the names of the suspects we found from the books abandoned,we have used the same to contact their parents,” said Likoni Deputy Police Anthony Shimoli.

The deputy police boss also put on notice chiefs and their deputies for sleeping on their jobs.

“These young criminals are well known, they come from areas where we have chiefs and their assistants being government watchdogs, but they have not reported the matter until it happens,” said a furious Shimoli.

Early may this year, 28 suspected members of Young thugs surrendered to security agencies in Likoni accompanied by their parents; since then there was a decline in criminal cases in the area.
