Mombasa, KENYA: A widow to Sheikh Aboud Rogo was on Thursday arraigned in Mombasa court after she was linked to Sunday terror attack at Central Police station in Mombasa.
Haniya Said Sagaar is accused of allegedly collecting funds so as to benefit terrorists, resulting in her aiding terror activities in the country.
The suspect will remain in custody pending the ruling of an affidavit sworn in court by investigating officer Guyo Godan.
Godan in his affidavit, wanted the suspect remanded at Nyali police station for fourteen days, so as to allow investigations to be completed.
Haniya was arrested on Wednesday 14th September at her home in Kanamai area within Kilifi county, this was after it was established that she communicated with Tasmin Yakub; a slain terror suspect, a day before the police station was attacked.
The court also heard that there was some financial transaction between the two and her phone was taken to Nairobi for further investigations.
The suspect’s lawyer Yusuf Abubakar, opposed the application to detain Haniya citing that prosecution did not give enough reason to detain her.
Abubakar also wanted the court to free her client and allow her to report to the police station upon request; so as to aid in the investigations.
“My client was arrested at her house and she has several children therefore police officers know where to find her,” she said.
In his ruling, Mombasa Resident Magistrate Emmanuel Mutunga said issues raised by the prosecutor were relating on security and ordered the suspect to remain in custody until Friday; when court will rule on the affidavit presented.
