Lamu, KENYA: Residents of Hindi division in Lamu West have called on police in the county to investigate increased incidents of killings in guest houses and homes in the area.

Residents say there have been increased reports of people being found dead in unclear circumstances and called on police to probe the fatal trend.

Then Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya-CIPK Lamu branch chair Noordin Abdullahi, urged the security administration in the county to come up with strict rules; that will see all visitors to guest houses and rest rooms thoroughly undergo security checks.

He said there was also need for hotel owners to make an effort of knowing all their guests and their motives before agreeing to host them; in order to make it easy to trace suspects whenever such murders occur.

“We condemn the trend of mysterious deaths that have been happening here in Hindi.we want the police to cat on the matter quickly and accordingly. However we also urge hotel owners to also know they have a part to play by trying to find out who is renting rooms in their hotels and if possible why,” said Abdullahi.

On Sunday,a middle aged man was found murdered in his house at Sina Mbio area in Hindi.

Hindi chief Mohamed Lausi said they suspect the man was murdered by a roommate.

Lausi said several people have been found dead in their homes or in guest houses and that it had been difficult to trace suspects.

“Sometimes we just find someone strangled, sometimes they are in their homes dead and we can’t tell why. Sometimes the bodies are found in guest houses. We have also had cases where bodies are found in thickets and it’s quite alarming now,”said Lausi.
