Reduced terror incidents in Lamu as linda boni security operation rumbles on

Lamu, KENYA: Cases and incidents of terror attacks and attempts in Lamu County have greatly reduced in recent times,this is according to security officials.

Linda Boni Director James Serian the calmness being experienced in the county and other parts of the coastal region are majorly due to the efforts of soldiers conducting the Linda Boni security Operation in the county.

Serian said the government was still keen to ensure all Alshabaab elements said to have been hiding deep within the Boni forest in Lamu are eliminated.

He said since the operation kicked off a year ago,peace and calm have continued to prevail all over Lamu.
He said the operation is still on and would go on for an unspecified period of time.

“Cases of attacks have really come down. There is more peace and stability in Lamu now; we are in total control of all the operation zones. We still plan to do more in order to intensify the operation,” said Serian.

He said hundreds of suspects have been arrested and handed over to the relevant authorities and that several cases are already in progress in various courts in Lamu and Tana River counties on the same.

He also said the forces soldiers had also neutralized a large number of militants which can’t be disclosed for security confidential purposes.

Serian has called for continued vigilance from members of the public and asked that they report to the authorities any suspicious persons with criminal intent.

He lauded members of the public for their continued cooperation with the police and security forces by submitting information that has been crucial in the war on terror.

“We want to thank members of the public. They have been very helpful with information that has greatly boosted our work and we are appealing for more of that. As for us,we shall continue to do our work and ensure Lamu remains safe for locals an visitors,”said Serian.

During his recent tour to Lamu,Deputy president William Ruto announced that the government had deployed an extra 1500 KDF and police officers to reinforce the operation Linda Boni and general security of the county.

An additional 40 Armored Personnel Carriers and over 10 tankers to also boost the operation.
