Mombasa, KENYA: A reporter with Baraka FM has been nominated as a finalist in the Energy Journalism Excellence Awards (EJEA) to be held in Nairobi on Thursday.
Senior reporter Ms. Diana Wanyonyi, was shortlisted following her feature story touching on solar energy in the coast region.
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and line utilities are the organizers of the Awards, which are now in the second edition.
Speaking after receiving news, an elated Ms. Wanyonyi, attributed her success to God.
“All the glory goes to God. It’s His doing. It was not a must that I be nominated. I am humbled,” said Wanyonyi.
The annual Awards are aimed at encouraging and sustaining positive, objective coverage of energy issues.
The inaugural edition was held in 2014.
In her feature, she delved on how households in the region should take advantage of the sun to convert it into sustainable energy, instead of depending on geothermal.
“I am passionate about Environment and Health stories. I always strive to bring change and awareness through the stories that I write,” she said.
Winners will receive trophies and cash prizes. The overall winner will enjoy an all expenses paid finalists’ programme of networking activities and workshops, culminating in the Gala Awards Ceremony.
