Nairobi, KENYA: National Olympic Committee of Kenya Nock has sued Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario arguing that his decision to disband the committee was illegal.
Nock officials lead by Chairman Kipchoge Keino, Secretary-General Francis Kinyiri and Treasurer Fridah Shiroyah took to court on Monday claiming the CS’s decision is unlawful and malice.
They argue Wario could have informed them in prior and that the decision to have the body dissolved could see Kenya banned by International Olympic Committee IOC for infringement.
Wario had defended his decision to disband Nock claiming it was due to public interest and that he acted according to the Sports Act 2013 which grants him powers to oversee sports bodies in the country.
This came after corruption and embezzlement allegations were raised against Nock officials following shambolic handling of the athletes during the Rio summer Olympics held in Brazil.
A number of National Olympics of Kenya Nock officials have since taken to court to answer the same with government warning stun action against any officer found guilty.
