Nairobi, KENYA: The government is fast tracking the use of mobile technology in a bid to bar brokers who are allegedly exploiting farmers in agricultural sector.

Speaking during a continental agricultural summit in Nairobi, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Willy Bett said that government is encouraging farmers to use mobile apps which will help them secure market directly and avert brokers who allegedly exploit them.

Bett said that in some instances, brokers buy agricultural goods from farmers at a cheap price and sell them at exorbitant prices reaping huge profits.

He pointed that the summit will bring together 1500 delegates from various stakeholders in Agricultural sector across the continent to come up with strategies of increasing food production and commercializing agriculture; to create jobs especially for youths.

Rockeffeller Foundation Managing Director Mamadou Kiteye urged players in agricultural sector to uphold proper storage of agricultural products in order to avert huge losses in the sector.
