Kwale, KENYA: Kwale county youth have been reported to have the lowest  Uwezo funds loan repayment rates.

This is according to the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Public Service, Youth and Gender Sicily Karikuki.

Kariuki particularly took issue with Msambweni constituency where she said that the rate is at 43%.

Speaking during the tour of various youth and women groups’ projects and issuance of Uwezo and Women Enterprise Fund cheques, the CS urged youths who were loaned with the money to ensure they repay on time to enable other groups benefit from the kitty.

She noted that the notion that the fund was political made most youths to use the money without repaying.

“Because this fund was started when Uhuru became the president, people took it as free money and thought they won’t repay it which is not good to mix politics and money” she said.

The CS on Wednesday also called on the youth to watch out as we head to electioneering period to avoid being used by politicians.

She said the future of the country depends on the youth and they should have positive influence in the community.

The CS was accompanied by Kwale County women representative Zainab Chidzuga who said that National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) has gone a long way in uplifting the lives of youths and women in various counties in the country.
