Kilifi, KENYA:Coastal residents, leaders and other stakeholders in agricultural sector have been urged to invest heavily in agriculture to avert a hunger crisis which has been affecting most parts of the coast region .
In an exclusive interview with Baraka Fm Kilifi county governor Amason Kingi said that there is need for the coastal region to focus on agricultural sector to salvage hunger crisis that has been affecting the region in decades.
Kingi on Wednesday said that coastal people need to change their perception that coast is just a tourism hub thus ignoring farming, a factor he insists has led to the hunger crisis due to over dependency of food from upcountry.
“Most coast residents entirely depended on food from other regions ,time has come that we must shift and focus on agriculture to stabilize food security in the coast.” Kingi said.
Kilifi County Government embarked on a seven-month food distribution program that seeks to end perennial drought in Ganze and Magarini Constituencies.
