Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa court on Wednesday sentenced an Indian man to six months imprisonment, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of being in the country illegally.
Court heard Mithranandapurth Krishna Madhu was arrested on 2nd August at Liwatoni area within Mombasa County by police officers who were on patrol.
The accused person presented an expired visa to the police officers upon request.
According to the visa used as an exhibit in court,it had expired in early March.
He pleaded guilty and told the court he has been staying in the country for about one year before his visa expired.
The Immigration officer asked the court to treat Madhu as a first offender and be repatriated back to India upon completion of sentence.
Mombasa Senior Magistrate Ireen Ruguru ordered the accused person to be repatriated after serving six months in prison or upon payment of a fine of sh.50,000.
