Lamu,KENYA:Lamu East MP Shariff Athman has officially announced his move from his party elect UDF to Jubilee ahead of the 2017 general election.
While making the announcement in Lamu’s Manda Island on Monday, Shariff said he had decided to join forces and work with Jubilee since it had demonstrated exemplary leadership since it got to power three years ago.
Shariff who was donning a Jubilee T-shirt has however not named a particular party under the Jubilee umbrella which he will be joining and insisted that he would reveal the party in 2017.
The MP who was elected to office in 2013 on a UDF ticket criticized the Cord coalition for staging divisive politics.
“I am now officially in Jubilee and we are already working together. I chose Jubilee because I have seen what they have been doing since they got to office. It’s an alliance that has brought developments and united Kenyans. I will however name the particular party only in 2017 not now,” said Shariff.
The MP becomes the second leader in Lamu to announce their move to Jubilee after Lamu governor Issa Timamy made a similar announcement a week ago.
Timamy said he believed that his new union with Jubilee will greatly benefit Lamu County and that Lamu had so far benefitted from Jubilee’s current development manifesto.
