Mombasa, KENYA: The 2016th edition of the Eid-Ul-Fitir soccer tournament will culminate this Saturday at RG Ngala Grounds in the outskirts of Mombasa with a tie pitting fierce rivals Vimbwanga FC and FC Shells.
Banking on history, the two sides are the football linchpin in Coast’s lower tiers, as proved by their dominance that saw them cruised to this year’s finals.
FC Shells however has done less to live to the hype having failed to record a single victory against their opponent.
Their best performance being a one all draw they posted during the Football Kenya Federation Division Two League match played in June.
Despite being bookies favorites, Vimbwanga’s head coach Abdalla Ramadhan has played down the taboo and instead demanded a full throttle football from his charges.
Vimbwanga coasted to the finals by overcoming Shanzu United 2-1 in the semis while FC Shells cruised past Changamwe United by a solitary goal.
The tournament that serves as an EID Mubarak gift to football faithful in the region attracted 16 teams that played in a round robin format, staged since the onset of the holy month of Ramadhan.
