Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa will host the 7th edition of the East Africa Community (EAC) Parliamentary games in December this year.
Addressing the press in Mombasa on Wednesday Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi who leads the committee charged with mandate to organize the event, said plans are underway to ensure it becomes successful.
‘’We are in Mombasa today to inspect the facilities, we have to ensure that everything is in place as early as possible because we are expecting at least 1,000 participants,’’ Wamunyinyi said.
The legislator said Mombasa was chosen over other counties as it will offer a chance for the members to showcase the country’s favorite tourist destination.
“This will give us a chance to put in the spotlight Mombasa which is our major tourist destination, we expect the team to report to camp early to ensure they acclimatize with the weather at the coast,” he added.
Members of Parliament from East African countries are expected to participate in various disciplines including football, volleyball, athletics, golf and Tug of War.
Kenyan legislators emerged overall winners at the 6th edition of the games held in Kigali, Rwanda last year.
