Lamu, KENYA: Youth in Lamu County have accused the county government of recruiting outsiders to employment posts in the county.

Speaking in Witu on Wednesday, Lamu Youth chairperson Fumo Bwanamkuu said 99% of tenders in the county have been awarded to people from Garissa, Wajir, Mandera and Tana River.

Fumo criticized the current county leadership saying it was visibly discriminatory.

He said despite having fully qualified for jobs, the county government prefers to bring in employees from other counties and hence leaving them jobless.

“We are tired of seeing people come from outside to do jobs that we are well able to do.we have seen tenders of over 40 projects going straight to outsiders,” said Fumo.

The youth said their efforts to have the county secretary Siyat Osman address the matter have been futile and that nothing has been done to that effect.

“The more we try to engage the county secretary the worse it gets.” Added Fumo.
