Lamu, KENYA:Four Alshabaab militants were on Wednesday morning killed by KDF soldiers in Milimani area in Lamu east.
KDF spokesperson David obonyo confirmed that they had also recovered a Rocket propelled grenade, four AK 47 rifles, an IED, two hand grenades.
Obonyo said in a statement that they had killed four militants during an operation that left one soldier killed.
“The troops had been in hot pursuit of the Al shabaab terrorists after they conducted a probing attack on a KDF (Kenya Defense Forces) camp in Mangai, Lamu County, yesterday evening,” Obonyo, said in the statement.
Meanwhile, one suspected Alshabaab militant was shot and killed by police, and two of his accomplices arrested on Wednesday.
Malindi area police chief Matau Mushangi said the killing and arrest occurred after counter terrorism police officers raided the house where the suspects were hiding, following a tip off.
“The suspects had been recruiting for al shabaab and were preparing to return to Somalia,” said Mushangi.
He said they recovered a shot gun and a revolver pistol, 18 national identity cards of people he said he believed the suspects had recruited, and over 20 passports.
“The suspect who was shot dead fired at our officers first and injured one of them who is undergoing treatment,” Muchangi, said.
In early June police warned that all shabaab agents were planning to launch attacks during the Muslim fasting month of Ramadhan.
