Mombasa, KENYA: A religious teacher alleged to be a witchdoctor was on Tuesday charged with defilement of a 3-year-old girl at Shanzu law court.

Court heard that on diverse dates between the year 2013 and the month of July 2015 at Kwa Bullo- Kisauni Sub County within Mombasa county, he intentionally and unlawfully defiled a 3 year girl.

He was also charged with indecent act with a child contrary to sexual offence act.

The suspect is said to be the step father of the child and is alleged to commit the offence continuously.

The girls’ mother was aware of the act but did not report matter until the step mother discovered what was going on and reported  the case to Bamburi police station.

Accused denied the charges before Shanzu magistrate Diana Mochache.

Court ordered the  accused not to be released on bail until the child testifies in court.

“Suspect should not be released, he might interfere with the evidence,” ruled Mochache, after prosecutor made an application for the  accused to be detained.

Court also requested the suspect to be taken to hospital for mental assessment before  the case is  heard on 6th July 2016.
