Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa County Assembly Speaker Thadius Rajuayi has given the house public finance committee 24 hours, to conduct afresh public forum to collect public opinion on the proposed county 2016/17 budget.
This is after Public Societies presented to the parliament a petition claiming that the forum conducted on Tuesday, did not take place as it was expected.
Earlier the civil societies threatened to disrupt today’s house business, if the budget was to be read as expected.
However, the speaker admitted that the house does not involve the public as per the law stipulates, and directed the public finance committee to conduct afresh the public forum within 24 hours, and make sure it has involved all the stake holders, before the budget is read in the parliament.
on Monday, a forum set to collect public opinion on the budget, was forced to a stop, after a group of Mombasa citizens led by civil societies disrupted the sitting, citing some irregularities and that the budget document was published in way that they cannot read.
They faulted the whole process saying they were not given enough time to go through the document, so that they can give relevant opinion on the same.
