President Kenyatta congratulates Wanyama on Spurs move

Nairobi, KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has join thousands of Kenyan football fans in celebrating national soccer team captain Victor Wanyama for successful transfer to Premier League club Tottenham.

In his message to Wanyama, the President posted on his official social pages ‘’Congratulations Victor Wanyama for completing the move to Tottenham Hotspur from Southampton FC, Kenya is proud of you,’’.

Tottenham on Thursday announced the sh 1.5 billion signing of Wanyama from Southampton where he raked in four goals in 80 appearances.

This move could have happened last season, but Southampton’s asking price was too steep as the Saints wanted over sh. 2.7 billion.

Wanyama was signed from Celtic in 2013 but had rejected offers for a new deal and would have been able to leave Southampton on a free transfer next summer.

The midfielder who turns 25 on Saturday then took to his social media account to thank the club that made him the first Kenyan player to ply trade in Premier League.

‘’Firstly, I would like to thank the most important part of every club, the fans,’’

‘’I want to reassure you that any “quotes” you have read about in the media before my move was announced are false,’’

‘’I would never disrespect you by talking to the media before I have talked to you guys,’’

‘It took a while for me to win you all over but I can truly say that with your support and affection I have grown as a player and a person,’’ wrote Wanyama.

At Spurs he not only re unite with former boss Mauricio Pochettino but he is guaranteed of EUFA Champions League football next season, becoming the third Kenyan to achieve that fete.
