GSU officer charged with manslaughter of colleague in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa based General Service Unit officer Tenai Kiplangat was on Tuesday charged in a Mombasa law court with manslaughter of his colleague Joseph Wafula.

Court heard that the suspect was driving camp vehicle registration number GKD 855H land cruiser and only to kill the deceased who was standing behind the vehicle as he reversed vehicle.

The suspect is alleged to have committed the said offence on 19th June at Mombasa GSU camp.

He denied charges before Mombasa chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti.

“My client is a police officer and he has not been sacked from job I pray for cash bail” Joseph Tarusi defence lawyer said.

The accused was later released on a surety bond of sh. 800, 000 or cash bill of  sh. 500,000.

He was charged along with vehicle driver Antony Situma with the charge of recklessness and negligence.

Court was told that the driver in charge of vehicle Situma  left the vehicle engine on and went to canteen before Kiplangat tried to drive thus killing Wafula.

Situma plead not guilty of endangering the late Wafula’s life  and released on a bond of sh.100,000.

The case will be mentioned on 4th July.
