Kwale, KENYA: Nine suspected Al Shabaab militants have been arrested in Kwale county,security authorities have revealed.
The suspects were on Teusday arrested by special forces of GSU in Mbita forest found in Kinango sub-county, Kwale county.
The arrest comes a day after one suspected militant was killed in he same area.
Police believe the suspects are linked to the killings of three Nyumba Kumi elders and police informers killed two weeks ago.
Police recovered a Russian hand grenade,cooking utensils,daggers and other assorted weapons.
Coast Region Police commander Francis Wanjohi told Baraka FM the suspects had been training in the forest before they were ambushed.
“The have been using motorcycle for errands,the utensils are for cooking.this people seems to be living in that forest but we have intensified security,” said the police boss.
This comes a week after 40 more police officers were deployed in the area.
The officers from GSU,ATPU,Regular police and Administration Police were sent from Mombasa to Kwale after the killing of three village elders.
This also comes as five police officers were on Monday killed when their vehicle was attacked by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Mandera County.
