Lamu,KENYA:The government has extended the ongoing security operation in Lamu dubbed “Linda Boni” to three more volatile areas in the county.

Announcing the extension when on his recent visit to Lamu last Friday,Coast Regional Director Nelson Marwa said the operation which has lasted over ten months shall now cover Kaisari,Nyatha and Jima-Bondeni villages.

He said the operation in the three areas shall be major and called for the villagers to evacuate with immediate effect.

Marwa warned those who will defy the directive that they shall face law and have themselves to blame.

The regional co-coordinator also applauded security agencies carrying out the Linda Boni operation saying they have successfully engaged and defeated the Al-shabaab militia that has posed a huge security threat to the nation’s security.

“we want all those who live near the Boni forest and the three villages to move out immediately because the operation can’t be done with people around. Its a major operation intended to clear out any left marks of the Alshabaab. We also warn people not to venture into the Boni forest just yet because of the massive operation ahead,” said Marwa.

He said with the additional operational areas, the government shall intensely enhance air and ground operations in order to effectively flush out the remaining militia elements from the Boni forest.

In January this year, the government extended the operation to Bodhei,Pandanguo,Witu and Pangani.

The sole intent was to flush out A-lshabaab militants said to be hiding within the expansive Boni forests from which they would launch attacks on Lamu and neighboring counties.
