Nairobi, KENYA:Eight legislators charged with hate speech and incitement were on Friday released on bond and cash bail terms.
Milimani Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo indicated that Gatundu South Member of Parliament and his Kabete counterpart Ferdinand Waititu will be released if they pay a five million bond each with a similar surety or cashbail of two million shillings.
In his ruling Ogembo indicated that he reluctantly granted Kuria and Waititu bond because they have cases pending in court of similar nature terming their charges as extremely serious.
Other legislators Kimani Ngunjiri(Bahati) ,Florence Mutua,(Busia women rep)Aisha Jumwa(Kilifi women rep) ,Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba) Junet Mohammed(suna east)and JohnStone Muthama (Machakos ) were granted a bond of one million each or a similar surety or 300,000 cash bail.
While realeasing the 8 legislators on bond the magistrate urged them to refrain from making utterances that can easily lead to divisions in the country.
“We need to do some soul searching about
where we want our country to go. It is really not about the worth of the property that you want to present as security. “Ogembo said.
