Suspected “witch” attacked and body set on fire by angry residents in Mombasa

Mombasa, KENYA: A woman suspected to be a witch has been attacked and her body set ablaze by an angry crowd in Soko Mjinga village, Kisauni in ​​Mombasa; after allegedly catching her in the act.

She was allegedly busted stark naked on the rooftop of a residential house in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

According to residents, her other two accomplices who were also completely naked escaped from the mob.

“I saw her naked on the rooftop. They were three women. We pelted them with stones prompting two of them to escape, but this one here fell off and we started attacking her,” one resident was quoted saying.

The early morning incident attracted a huge crowd of people after word went round that a ‘witch has been arrested in the act’.

The residents later set her body on fire using tires claiming they wanted to send a strong message to other “witches” terrorizing them.

According to another resident, the “witches”, had special powers enabling her to hop from roof to roof but was busted after residents saw them.

“We questioned her why she was naked on the rooftop but she remained mum prompting us to start beating her,” she said.

Incidents of witchcraft allegations are strife in the Coast with several people being attacked and killed.
