Man shot dead in Mombasa after raising alarm over Mpesa robbers

Mombasa, KENYA: A man was on Teusday shot dead during a robbery at an M-pesa shop located at Mikindani stage, Changamwe.

According to eyewitnesses of the Tuesday morning incident, two armed men stormed the Mpesa outlet and got away with sh. 150,000.

The man shot dead is alleged to be one of the workers at a car wash outside the Mpesa outlet.

The deceased is reported to have been shot after shouting at the suspected robbers, before they took off using motorcycles.

Changamwe police boss Joseph Muthee said the man who is yet to be identified; was standing near the shop but when the suspects were fleeing he raised an alarm prompting the thugs to shoot him.

“He shot him at a close range from the front and the bullet was lodged in the chest killing him on the spot,” said police boss.

The police boss said they have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.
