Lamu, KENYA: Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri has assured Muslim faithful and other visitors of security during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking in his office on Sunday,Kanyiri said security officers were on high alert and that elaborate measures had been taken to ensure the fast goes as planned.
He said police patrols had been increased to provide 24 hour security to all mosques and all other places where the prayers will be conducted.
Kanyiri called on residents to make use of the Nyumba Kumi initiative in order to be able to detect any suspicious persons or motives amongst them during Ramadan and have them reported to the police.
Police patrols have also been increased on major roads in coming to Lamu and in all major towns of Mpeketoni,Witu,Hindi and Lamu in order to promptly deal with any arising security threats where need be.
“We have increased patrols not just in Lamu but other towns as well. Mosques and all other prayer places are being guarded. So far we are good to go but we want to also appeal for the help of wananchi who must keep vigilant and report anything they feel compromises security,”said Kanyiri.
